I recently joined the Copiague Fire Department as a senior volunteer member. I have been a junior from ages 12- 18. I am the 3rd generation of firefighters in my family. My grandfather, my father and me all make up this generation of fire fighting. I am currently going to forestall in order to learn what to do in a fire. I joined about 4 months ago, and joined the Hook Ladder, and Rescue Company. I have been taught to put out oil/gas spills, how to cut up cars in order to take a victim out, and how to medically assist people. The men at the fire department have become my family. All of us look after one another, and have each others back. I recently went into my first fire and it was a rush. Whenever my pager goes off, I get that same rush to get some action and help people. When I see someones pain go away or become happy, it puts a smile on my face.Fire Department
