A Fireman's Life
A Firemans Life:
By: Daniel S. Driscoll
A fireman's life is one big surprise,
Usually he laughs, sometimes he cries.
There's always stress, toil and strife,
Hoping he's good enough to save just one life.
His wife understands, when he misses dinner,
If he runs out of church, don't think he's a sinner.
Answering a call, is tops on his list,
Regretting each one he's ever missed.
He tries and tries, but can't make us see,
The happiest men, still work for free.
Jumping from bed, fighting the cold,
Knowing what to do, without being told.
He rushes to the station, jumps on a truck.
Depending on skill, never on luck.
Putting his life on the line, for an unknown friend,
Hoping and praying, it won't be the end.
"The Bravest Men in the World", the title is fitting,
They all do their best, never come close to quitting.
Next time you see them, all their lights blinking,
Take just a minute, to think what they're thinking.
It's a hard job, so show them you care,
And help them out, with a little prayer.

And help them out, with a little prayer.
This poem does a great job showing the sacrifices fire fighters show. When firefighters get a call, they get a jump of readiness to save someones life. They rush to the station, put on their gear and, jump on the truck. They put their life on the line to save others, however they are trained and ready. They miss moments in life like dinner with the family sometimes but its for a good reason. This poem hit me because it notes all the good things i want strive to be or do while being a part of the fire department. I recently joined, and I love the fact that I am able to help people.
To My Father
To My Father
By: Erik Sattler
I look up at my dad, not in height but as a man
someone who always tries his best, always does the best than he can
doesn’t show much emotion, but when I was born he did cry
shows the love he has for his family, a family for whom he would die.
he grew up in a small town, kind of a derelict kid
not too book smart, knew how to make his teachers blow their lid
he enrolled in the army, got stronger, learned how to fight
he learned to respect, how to serve, and serve with all his might
got out the army, learned construction , learned a very good skill
learned to , swing a hammer, build a house, how to drill
through this he met a girl, they used to dance the night away
he married her, had kids, and she’s still his wife today
he has a great trait, and its is that he is not selfish at all
he’s actually a volunteer firefighter, he’s always ready for the call
helping is what he does, always does it with a smile on his face
taught me to love the flag and salute it in all its grace
I'll fight with my mom sometimes and always make her look like a mess
my dad says why you gotta do that son and I apologize for causing all the stress
but no matter how mad i get him sometimes I know he will always have my back
together well take any challenges, face the world, be ready to attack
The best thing about my dad, is that he is who I wanna be
his traits that he passed down is my favorite part about me
He took me through baseball, fire department, and even boy scouts
He taught me what I know today, things I once knew nothing about
I don’t know why I don’t hug him to often, I guess I just forget
But I know one day when he’s gone, not hugging him I will regret
I don’t really show enough love, as I really should do
“its not manly” but the love I got for this man is very true
so I wake up every morning and smile when I see him there
cause when he won’t be, its gonna be really hard to bear
your my hero dad, I love you every single day
Those are just some of the things I think about you, but never really say
